Press Statement by the George A. Pilgrim General Secretary of the Democratic Labour Party on the occasion of the re-opening of the renovated Black Rock Police Substation on 27th March 2017

Today, the Democratic Labour Party is commending the Minister of Home Affairs, Hon. Adriel Brathwaite for his very focused and determined manner in making the accommodation requirements of the Police officers a priority. The party is aware of the hard work engaged by the members of the Royal Barbados Police Force and are working to meet their needs.

The recent reopening of the Black Rock Police sub-station is a clear signal that this government continues to deliver.  That’s a FACT.

The Barbados Labour Party recently signaled it is ready for the Battle of politics. The first and only priority of the opposition is to do battle .Barbadians, must take note of the muscle language OFTEN used by the opposition party and appreciate it is only a peek at what direction it wants to take our country.  This party, this government will not be distracted by the public relations cocktails sips that are held to prove that opposition party members love each other. Instead, we are focused on delivering.

The Minister of Home Affairs has delivered against the background of an opposition party seeking to destroy and divide this great country on a platform of corrosive politics. It is clear for all to see our hard working Minister of Home Affairs is attaching importance to delivering on his promises. As a government, we have taken note of the efforts of all employees in the public service.

It’s a FACT that Barbados will soon have two ultramodern police stations located at Cane Garden and Hastings respectively. Barbadians can expect a massive boost in the delivery of police service throughout the island. The Cane Garden project which is near completion will offer close to 13 000 square feet of new space for Police officers to function in.  While an additional Court building will be available to our legal system.

In Bridgetown the barracks at Central Police station are under renovations and will soon be completed.

In the recent past the Minister of Home Affairs saw to it that the Barbados Fire service and our country benefitted with the handing over of two (2) new Fire tenders.

These additions to the fleet represent a long overdue upgrade of the Fire service. The Government will shortly bring closure to the renovations and upgrade of the Arch Hall Fire station where accommodations for better ongoing training of Fire Officers will occur.

It is to the credit of the Minister of Home Affairs the Hon Adriel Brathwaite, our essential service personnel are given priority. We accepted more can be done but we also commend the lot that is done with little.

Press release from the Democratic Labour Party with regards to an article titled “BRA should not have data on Barbadians’ medical conditions” on March 16, 2017

Press release from the Democratic Labour Party with regards to an article titled “BRA should not have data on Barbadians’ medical conditions” on March 16, 2017 “http://www.loopnewsbarbados.com/content/bra-should-not-have-data-barbadians-medical-conditions

A response from the Hon. Christopher Sinckler M.P., Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs

“I have spoken to the Revenue Commissioner who is not aware that any such thing was done. Audits of pharmacies have and will continue as is possible under law. It is entirely possible for such audits to be conducted without having access to anyone’s personal medical information. Why would that be necessary? An invoice and receipt for payment on a prescription don’t carry patient names.

It is foolishness. Dr. Sonia Browne happens to be my medical doctor and my name is not written on any prescription receipt. Auditors deal with receipts. Besides in the case of drug service prescriptions which go into the Ministry of Health (drug service) when the pharmacies submit the counterfoil for reimbursement purposes, how is the confidentiality of the patients medical information handled?”

“Aren’t prescriptions and receipts not submitted there too?”

Statement issued on March 14th 2017 by the General Secretary on the occasion of the handing over of computers and furniture by  Ambassador Wang Ke  to the Ministry of Education

The Democratic Labour Party commends the Minister of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation for the recent acquisition of a 10 million dollar injection into the quality of life for all students from the People’s Republic of China.

The country’s relationship with China spans decades. Diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China was established on 30th May 1977.

The Democratic Labour Party began receiving diplomatic aide with the construction of the Sir Garfield Sobers Gymnasium  along with the Sir Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Conference and Cultural Centre.

The gift of some 14 000 technology solutions along with a massive upgrade in furniture to outfit our schools, demonstrates the Minister’s commitment to enhancing a much needed dimension in our education system. The Minister has pointed out that every school will benefit from this gift to our country. The Democratic Labour Party continues to pay close attention not only to the physical plant which was in much needed repairs after coming to office but to enriching the experience of the student while in school.

The items valued at 10 million dollars represent for the Educational system value added as students have greater access to the use of technology. The Ministry must be commended for it’s over all efforts at transforming the sector and improving student life.

They can be no doubt this effort along with the improved academic results, upgrade of school plants and construction of new schools has repositioned education in Barbados.  The push to have increase new degree programmes at the Barbados Community College, along with increased access to nursery schools, all point to improvements in the way we view this sector.

Statement from the General Secretary, on the occasion of the completion of the FACTS Mid-year Conference, at Queens College, March 4 2017.

Today, the Democratic Labour Party is commending the efforts of our Prime Minister and Party President the Rt. Hon Freundel Stuart and his cabinet in its efforts to deliver the FACTs about the performance of the government at our Mid-Year Conference, which was held on Saturday, 4th March 2017, at the Queens College School, Husbands, St. James

The point must be made that the party is busy doing the research to determine the date and time such an event occurred under the last administration where live unedited reports were delivered by cabinet members. This party has placed on record a live report to the people of Barbados and ensured that all presentations were upload for further dissemination.

The party wants to associate itself with a campaign that is clean and free from fear and corrosion. This country is beaten ever day online by the many mistruths that are created by the paid operatives on the other side.

The wedge of disunity that has become the political tool of the opposition has reached an all point low in recent past. Barbadians should take note that despite the unemployment figure hovering below double digit in the recent past the Barbados Labour Party release an unemployment figure online that the government had sent home 33,500 people over their period in office. Barbadians can be rest assured that this party will not be idle as the PAID mischief makers in Opposition earn a salary as they unmake the profile of Barbados.

The Democratic Labour Party will soon launch phase two of its movement to sensitize Barbadians to the FACTs of the nation’s progress over the last 9 years. The massive distortion online has the attention of the Democratic Labour Party’s Councils and we shall not let it gain currency. The idea of berating our country and laying claim to love of Barbados is a political paradox. The party very soon will communicate to Barbados on our FACT movement.
