Dr. Rolerick Hinds

CANDIDATE FOR ST. THOMAS

HR

Dr. Rolerick Hinds is yet another of the highly competent and principle-centred leaders who have stepped up to the plate to lead Barbados through the current watershed to a higher plane of development. He believes that the human resources of Barbados have the capacity to make as great a leap forward towards creating a Better Barbados as an earlier generation did in the 1960’s and 1970’s.

Dr. Hinds was born in 1969 in Lakes, St Andrew; but after living in various communities in St Thomas, he fell in love with the Parish. He received his early education at Beckles Nursery School, St Andrew Primary School, St Stephens Primary School and The Seventh Day Adventist Primary School before proceeding to The Lodge School. He then attended the University of the West Indies where he read for a Bachelor of Science Degree (BSc) in Biology and Chemistry at Cave Hill, followed by his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) at the St. Augustine Campus.

His working career started while still at Secondary School with jobs at various small businesses on evenings and weekends. He later taught Biology, Chemistry, Anatomy and Physiology at various academic institutions across Barbados and worked as an Administrative Officer in the Government Service. He then worked as a Medical Doctor at the QEH and many Polyclinics around the island; and is currently a Clinical Medical Officer at the Warrens Polyclinic.

Dr. Hinds has always been a “people person”. Throughout his school career he participated in extracurricular activities such as football, cricket, tennis, basketball, the Cadets and the Students Council. At university he got fully involved in campus activities. He served as President of the Natural Science Society as well as Representative of the Guild of Undergraduates while at Cave Hill. His participation in activities at St. Augustine included being Hall Chairperson, Representative of the Guild of Undergraduates and President of the Medical Students Council.

Despite his busy schedule, Dr. Hinds has always found time for community service. He was the President of the Grantley Prescod Primary School PTA for several years, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Management at the Deighton Griffith School and Chairman of the Christ Church East Central Branch of the DLP. He also delivers lectures on a regular basis to various organisations, groups and businesses.

Dr. Hinds considers St. Thomas to be a beautiful parish in the heart of Barbados with typically talented and resourceful people having the potential to help solve their own problems. He knows that for every problem there is a solution. He is fully aware of the needs of his constituents with respect to employment for persons of all age groups; housing; sporting and recreational facilities; agricultural development; road and land infrastructure; access to funding for young persons; persons seeking to change their career paths; and business entrepreneurs eager to create wealth to provide for their families. He believes that he can motivate and help to harvest the natural talent of the people of St. Thomas so that there can be planned housing; agricultural development to feed our nation and export produce to earn valuable foreign exchange; an increase in areas for sporting, recreational and entertainment activities to meet our needs and enhance our tourism product; rejuvenating the community spirit by way of greater participation and expression of love and care for each other while building a brighter future for our families.

He is fully involved in the life of his community through developmental, sporting and recreational activities. He supports various sports clubs in St Thomas such as the Porey Spring and Welchman Hall Football Clubs and the High Tide Stingrays Swim Club. He loves music and culture and is the Founder and Band Leader of St Thomas’ first ever Foreday Morning Band, “St. Thomas On The Move”, which had an excellent first time Jump in 2012 and will be better next year.

With the support of his wife Donna, their five children and their community, he is ready, willing and able to give the people of St. Thomas the quality representation they deserve.
